      With its most recent step into the world of electrification, the Jeep plug-in hybrid propulsion solution is capable of enhancing the legendary off-road capability of its line-up of SUVs, starting with the Renegade 4xe plug-in hybrid. This latest evolution of Jeep® fully reflects its core values of freedom, adventure, authenticity and passion.

      Jeep has always pioneered new segments and new technologies. Its legend started in 1941 with the Willys-Overland, the first ever mass-produced 4x4 vehicle and continued in 1949 with the launch of the four-wheel-drive Willys Wagon, which created the Sport Utility Vehicle. Its renowned off-road capability has endured ever since and it is now being electrified the Jeep way.

      4xe
      The Jeep Renegade 4xe is centred on the pillars of efficiency, performance and responsibility. It will be the most fuel-efficient Jeep SUV ever, with the new 4xe technology offering zero tailpipe-emission in full electric mode.

      Efficiency is not achieved at the expense of performance. The Jeep Renegade 4xe remains true to its all-terrain vocation while offering an enhanced driving experience on the road, with smooth responses and acceleration. The increased torque generated by the electric motor and the ability to adjust it with extreme precision ensures even greater four-wheel-drive capability on any terrain, for extreme off-road adventures.

      Thanks to the plug-in hybrid electric technology, CO2 emissions are lower than 50g/km in hybrid mode* and the cost of ownership is reduced. However, the Jeep brand’s focus on sustainability runs deeper than this and starts even before these vehicles hit the road, thanks to a manufacturing cycle designed to have the lowest environmental impact.

      The all-terrain evolution
      The Jeep Renegade 4xe is built at the FCA Melfi Plant in Basilicata (Italy), where the Jeep Renegade has been in production since 2014. The Plant Academy is a breeding ground for ideas and experiments and spawned a ‘talent factory’, for developing personnel potential, in the Melfi factory which has since made a significant contribution to FCA’s electrification strategy.

      Although production of the Jeep Renegade 4xe is in Melfi, the first full-cycle Jeep factory outside North America, the development process culminated at the Arjeplog Proving Grounds in Swedish Lapland. Up to 3,800km of road tests were clocked up to put the Jeep Renegade plug-in hybrid through its paces in all conditions that customers might need to tackle. An array of activities were carried out to ensure quality, safety, reliability, and comfort in all conditions.

      The new plug-in hybrid electric technology elevates the capability of the Jeep Renegade by increasing off-road prowess, while also enhancing its on-road performance in everyday driving. It is not only at home on sand, mud, rocks, snow, or ice, but its capability and driving pleasure also shines through in the city.

      Leader in off and on-road driving
      Courtesy of the plug-in hybrid technology, the new Renegade 4xe offers the best performance and driving dynamics of any Jeep SUV ever. It is literally capable of ’going anywhere and doing anything’ and features legendary 4x4 capability, developed over almost 80 years of history.

      At the same time, it is ideal for everyday driving in the city, thanks to the plug-in hybrid system that allows it to travel with zero tailpipe emissions for a range of up to 26 miles in full-electric mode*. On longer jaunts, combined with the internal combustion engine, CO2 emissions are less than 50g/km in hybrid mode*. In case of extended off-road driving, two electric motors featuring Powerloop ensure that eAWD traction is always available.

      ‘Blue’ design cues distinguish the new Renegade 4xe
      The new Jeep Renegade 4xe stands out from its internal combustion engine (ICE) counterparts thanks to the striking blue Jeep, Renegade and 4xe badges. An additional push cover on the vehicle’s left side, towards the rear, covers the charging port and is unique to the 4xe model.

      Inside the cabin, a 7-inch TFT colour display and Uconnect NAV with 8.4-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and DAB radio are offered as standard. Black accents adorn the air vents, speakers, and center console bezels on the Longitude and Limited trims, while the Trailhawk trim sports Ruby red accents.

      The Renegade 4xe also feature a new six-speed automatic transmission selector, updated Selec-Terrain rotary control with eAWD modes (4WD Lock, 4WD Low, Hill Descent Control) to engage the different driving modes - Auto, Snow, Mud & Sand, and Rock - including the new Sport mode for enhanced throttle response and steering.

      Jeep Renegade 4xe, power and performance
      The Jeep Renegade 4xe pairs a 1.3-litre turbo petrol engine with an electric motor, located between the rear axle, which is powered by an 11.4 kWh battery that can be recharged while driving or through an external power outlet or charge point. On its own, the efficient 1.3-litre turbo engine delivers a power output of 130hp or 180hp, plus the 60hp produced by the electric motor, giving a total of 190hp in the Longitude and Limited version or 240hp in the Trailhawk model. In terms of torque, the electric motor produces 250Nm, while the combustion engine delivers 270Nm. The combination of an internal combustion engine and the electric units guarantees performance and maximum driving pleasure, with acceleration from zero to 62mph in around 7.5 seconds and a top speed of 81mph in full electric and up to 124mph in hybrid mode.

      A full line-up
      The new Jeep Renegade 4xe line-up includes three trim levels – Longitude, Limited and Trailhawk – all featuring four-wheel-drive (eAWD) and a six-speed automatic transmission.

      A wide range of customisation options are available, with up to 18 different exterior colors including Alpine White, Glacier, Granite Crystal, Jetset Blue, Blue Shade, Sting Grey, Colorado Red, Carbon Black and Solid Black. Bikini and Omaha Orange and exclusive to Limited and Trailhawk trims and Matt Green can only be found on the Trailhawk. In addition, up to four specific wheel designs are available for the Renegade 4xe.

      Safety
      The new Jeep Renegade 4xe comes with a suite of the most advanced ADAS systems available including high-visibility full LED headlights, Forward Collision Warning and Lane Departure Warning Plus, Intelligent Speed Assist and Traffic Sign Recognition and front and rear parking sensors. Jeep Renegade 4xe also features the new Drowsy Driver Detection system, offered for the first time in a Jeep model.

      Additional safety features include Blind Spot Detection, ParkView rear backup camera with dynamic grid lines, automatic Park Assist and Keyless Go can also be specified.

      ENGINEERING

      Layout and operation of the Jeep 4xe hybrid powertrain
      The Jeep Renegade 4xe powertrain integrates two electric motors and an 11.4 kWh battery pack, with a fuel-efficient 1.3-litre turbo petrol engine and six-speed automatic transmission. This architecture provides two cars in one: a battery electric vehicle featuring an electric motor and a high-voltage lithium-ion battery pack on the rear axle and a conventional vehicle with an internal combustion engine fitted on the front axle.

       Key elements of the Renegade and Compass 4xe powertrain are:

      • A 1.3-litre, four-cylinder, turbo petrol internal combustion engine delivering 130hp or 180hp and 270Nm of torque
      • Two electric motors, one of which is located on the front axle and coupled to the internal combustion engine that, in addition to working in synergy with the engine, can act as a high-voltage generator. The second motor is located on the rear axle and features reduction gear and integrated differential (e-axle). It delivers 60hp and 250Nm of torque, generating traction and recovering energy while braking
      • An 11.4 kWh, 400 volt, lithium-ion, nickel-manganese-cobalt, battery pack powers the e-axle and is located in a secure position underneath the second row seats
      • An integrated module for controlling the charging of the high-voltage and conventional 12V batteries of the car which is compact in size and mounted in the boot

      The 1.3-litre turbo petrol engine that powers the Renegade 4xe belongs to the new FCA Global Small Engine (GSE) family. It is based on a modular structure and is available in the Renegade 4xe in the four-cylinder configuration with two output levels: 130hp or 180hp (190hp or 240hp combined output of the two power sources).

      The basic structure of the 1.3-litre turbo petrol engine guarantees efficiency, modularity and a considerable degree of standardisation in terms of components and manufacturing process, flexibility and potential for future development. It is entirely made of aluminium for lightness (it weighs 106kg). The crankcase, developed in partnership with Teksid, is made of high-pressure die-cast aluminium alloy. After studying various crankcase designs, a bedplate architecture was chosen, to offer the best balance of weight, structural performance, noise, and vibrations. Like all turbocharged versions in the GSE family, it includes exclusive third-generation MultiAir technology that improves combustion efficiency by adjusting valve lift and timing, and further optimises independent intake valve opening and closing.

      By integrating the electric motor on the auxiliary belt it was possible to design a control logic that optimises the dynamics and efficiency of the internal combustion engine and the automatic transmission. The result is a front axle superior to any equivalent conventional powertrain, capable of offering a lively, smooth and efficient behavior.

      Battery pack preserves boot capacity and interior room
      The 11.4 kWh, 400-volt lithium-ion battery pack uses cobalt-nickel manganese/graphite chemistry. It is located underneath the second-row of seats, where it is protected from outside elements. Enclosed in a steel casing, the pack is fitted with a dedicated heating and cooling circuit to keep the battery at its optimum temperature for best performance.

      The 11.4 kWh battery pack allows the Renegade 4xe to travel approximately 26 miles* in full-electric, zero-tailpipe emission mode. The hybrid system also includes a power inverter (PIM) housed inside the battery pack, which is also protected from damage.

      The Jeep Renegade 4xe features a small charging module, placed in the boot, and the arrangement of the electric motor under the floor means that the boot capacity is almost the same as that in the conventional engine version at 330 litres. The height adjustable boot floor also remains and the layout means that a spare wheel can still be housed under the boot floor on the 4xe version.

      Electrified driving modes
      Customers can personalise their driving experience according to their specific needs and the type of journey with a choice of three operating modes - Hybrid, Electric and E-save. The desired mode can be activated using the selector switch, located in front of the gear lever. In all driving modes, the regenerative braking system recovers energy during passive driving phases, such as deceleration or light braking. Additionally, the Renegade 4xe travels in hybrid mode when the battery reaches the minimum charge level, regardless of the selected mode.

      More in details:

      • HYBRID is the default mode selected when the car is started. It is designed to manage and use the system in the most efficient way, optimising power and minimising fuel consumption. The internal combustion engine and electric motor work together, with braking energy recovery phases. Initially, the system favors electric driving, with the power supplied by the electric motor. When the battery reaches the minimum charge level (State Of Charge - SOC), the internal combustion engine is used for propulsion. The system manages start-up and intervention through an optimisation algorithm (Hybrid Control Processor - HCP) designed to maximize the system efficiency levels.
      • ELECTRIC is the mode that provides a full-electric range of about 26miles* with zero tailpipe emissions. It is designed to maximize the electric driving experience through a different calibration of the HCP optimisation algorithm. The car drives in electric-only mode until there isn’t sufficient charge in the battery. The system automatically switches to HYBRID mode when the battery is completely flat or when the driver kicks-down. A top speed of up to 81mph can be reached.
      • E-SAVE is the mode for maintaining battery charge or for charging it while driving using the internal combustion engine. E-SAVE mode supports two secondary modes, called Battery Save (passive E-SAVE) and Battery Charge (active E-SAVE), both of which can be activated on the Uconnect system screen.
      • Passive E-SAVE or Battery Save maintains the state of charge of the battery through the predominant use of the internal combustion engine
      • E-SAVE active or Battery Charge charges the battery up to 80% through the operation of the internal combustion engine on which the combined front electric generator acts

      In HYBRID mode - the optimisation algorithm (HCP) guarantees system efficiency by modulating the joint intervention of the electric motors and internal combustion engine, according to the charge level of the battery. The HCP algorithm automatically modulates the torque distribution between the electric motors and the internal combustion engine. The internal combustion engine intervenes whenever the required performance exceeds that of the electric motor alone. The HYBRID mode driving optimisation algorithm is designed to manage the car in the most efficient configuration according to the following factors:

      • Energy level (State Of Charge) of the battery pack
      • Electric motor and internal combustion engine efficiency maps
      • Requests for performance by the driver
      • Travel and environmental situations (gradients, ambient temperatures, etc.)

      The intervention of the internal combustion engine while driving may depend on various combinations of these factors. When the battery charge level is low, the internal combustion engine is switched on to provide the required torque to the front wheels, making up for the lack of electric propulsion from the rear wheels.

      Regenerative braking
      Regenerative braking is a fundamental element of the ecological nature of the Jeep Renegade 4xe, allowing kinetic energy to be recovered during deceleration or braking phases. The energy is stored in the battery pack instead of being dissipated as heat from the brake discs. The conventional brake system is used to stop the car in the event of emergency braking or when traveling at very low speeds.

      eCoasting
      eCoasting mode is always active, regardless of the driving mode, to maximise energy recovery when the throttle and brake pedals are released. An ‘Intense’ eCoasting mode can be activated by a button on the central tunnel when the transmission is in the Drive position. A light on the instrument panel indicates the level of eCoasting activated:

      • White, if the ‘Intense’ function is selected but not active
      • Green, if the ‘Intense’ function is selected and active

      In ‘Intense’ mode the regenerative braking calibration is greater when coasting, reducing the speed faster and generating more electricity to be returned to the battery pack.  

      Off-road capability and Jeep hybrid e-AWD system
      Legendary Jeep off-road capability is guaranteed by the Jeep Active Drive Low system, fitted on all Renegade 4xe trims. The new plug-in hybrid technology further enhances its off-road capability, with the combination of the two propulsion systems resulting in more torque.  Trailhawk 4xe, for example, the specialist off-road trim with 240hp – boasts an increase in torque output up to 50% versus the 170hp diesel Trailhawk model. Thanks to the new 4xe technology, traction to the rear axle is not provided by a prop shaft but through a dedicated electric motor. This allows the two axles to be separated and control the torque independently in a more effective way than a mechanical system, with traction being delivered to the rear wheels immediately when needed.

      Jeep Selec-Terrain™
      Jeep Active Drive Low is paired with the Jeep Selec-Terrain traction control system with up to five driving modes. Selec-Terrain includes Hill Descent Control for superior off-road capability. By using Selec-Terrain, the driver can choose the ideal mode to safely tackle any terrain:

      • Auto: ensures continuous traction management, suitable for on and off-road driving
      • Sport: uses both the electric motor and the internal combustion engine to deliver a sporty driving performance. New for the Renegade 4xe, this dynamic driving mode makes the daily urban driving experience more enjoyable, by tightening up the steering, sharpening the throttle response and adjusting the behavior of the transmission, with higher upshifts for full power and torque delivery
      • Snow: provides more grip in extreme conditions. It is designed to be used for driving on-road and off-road in the case of poor grip surfaces, such as roads covered by snow
      • Sand/Mud: Off-road driving mode for tackling surfaces with poor grip, such as muddy or sandy soils to provide maximum traction
      • Rock (Trailhawk versions only): This mode is only available when 4WD Low mode is engaged. The system configures the car to provide maximum levels of traction and steering capability on low-grip off-road surfaces. It provides benchmark off-road performance

      Jeep Selec-Terrain traction control system manages the AWD system on Renegade 4xe by combining the five dynamic modes - Auto, Sport, Mud/Sand, Snow and Rock - in to two different 4x4 traction modes, depending on the situation that needs to be tackled:

      • 4WD Lock permanently engages the four-wheel drive at speeds up to 9mph, keeping the rear electric motor (P4) constantly running to provide 4x4 traction at low speeds with a constant distribution of torque between the two axles (the distribution ratio varies depending on the selected Terrain mode). At speeds above 9mph, AWD becomes on-demand. Compared to a conventional mechanical AWD system, the response speed of the rear electric motor (P4) allows faster engagement. The full functionality of the 4xe four-wheel drive is guaranteed by the ’Powerlooping‘ function when the battery charge level is low. This ensures that the front electric motor, mechanically connected to the internal combustion engine, continuously generates high-voltage current to power the rear electric motor and deliver maximum traction regardless of the state of charge of the battery.
      • 4WD Low makes the most of the performance and power of the vehicle to tackle particularly difficult terrain, such as sand or rocks. On the Trailhawk trims, the Rock mode of the Selec- Terrain system can be selected only in 4WD Low.

      The result is the ability of the Jeep Renegade 4xe to handle every situation in the most efficient, safe and best performing mode.

      The 4xe driving experience
      The Jeep Renegade 4xe driving experience starts when the customer parks the car in the garage and leaves it plugged into the normal domestic socket using the supplied cable, or connected to the handy easyWallbox charger the evening before. Using the E-Control function, the driver can set the start time and the battery charging time, allowing them to pick the most cost-effective electricity tariffs. This can also be programmed using the My Uconnect app.

      The energy from the mains is transferred through the control module in the boot to the battery pack, which is mounted underneath the second-row of seats and continues to the dashboard at the front. The charge level and vehicle’s general status can be checked remotely via the My Uconnect app. Drivers can pre-condition their car, turning on the air conditioning or heating, remotely to maximise its charge.

      After unplugging the car from the charging port, the journey begins. Hybrid mode is set by default, when the vehicle is started and it automatically manages the energy flows in the car. When the driver gets aboard, their smartphone automatically connects to the on-board Uconnect system, allowing them to continue using the various applications on the vehicle’s 8.4-inch touchscreen.

      When driving in town, the driver can select the Electric driving mode. This allows them to access ‘restricted’ traffic areas, as the car will use the electric motor that supplies power to the rear wheels only so the car has zero tailpipe emissions. The range of the Renegade 4xe in full-electric is about 26 miles* and top speed is of 80mph in full electric. The internal combustion engine turns will only cut in if the driver kicks-down or when the battery level is low.

      Out of town on extra-urban roads, drivers can select the e-Save mode and  maximise energy efficiency through the Battery Save function. This function mantains the remaining battery life by using the internal combustion engine  to charge the battery through the electric motor-generator unit mounted on the front axle. The second option, Battery Charge, uses the internal combustion engine to recharge the battery up to 80%.

      When additional speed and power is needed the Jeep Renegade 4xe automatically starts the internal combustion engine on the front axle, which drives the front wheels and turns the vehicle into an eAWD, that is an all-wheel-drive car that is also a hybrid.

      In this hybrid configuration the top-of-the-range Trailhawk 4xe model can deliver up to 240hp and reach a top speed of 124mph, making it the most powerful and most off-road capable Renegade model ever built. The hybrid mode maximises fuel efficiency, achieving between 123 and 134 mpg* (with the battery charged).

      When driving downhill the Renegade 4xe exploits the kinetic energy to recharge its battery using eCoasting. The movement of the wheels when the accelerator pedal is released generates energy and which is used to recharge the battery.  It helps to increase the total electric range of the car while also increasing its braking power. The eCoasting mode can be set to two levels to further increase the energy recovery and range.

      Legendary off-road capabilities have always distinguished every Jeep model and the Renegade 4xe plug-in hybrid is no exception. The plug-in hybrid 4x4 traction system has been designed and developed to perfectly integrate the power supply into the 4x4 traction system, to further improve the off-road performance. The plug-in hybrid traction system is even more powerful in terms of 4WD capability than a vehicle with a conventional internal combustion engine.

      For off-road driving, customers can select HYBRID 4x4 mode and the system will automatically operate both drive systems on both axles. They can also pick 4WD Low mode to optimise response on sandy or rocky terrain or 4WD Lock to maintain permanent 4x4 traction up to 9mph and select from the four-mode (five on the Trailhawk) Selec-Terrain traction control system.

      As a result of the high torque that can be released onto the ground almost instantaneously from the rear electric motor - up to 2,500Nm - and the possibility of adjusting it with extreme precision during acceleration and when traversing the most challenging terrain, the off-road driving experience is more precise and controlled. There is no need to increase the rpm to turn the wheels, while the dynamic load on the transmission is minimised, resulting in improved handling and speed. With the electric all-wheel-drive technology (eAWD), rear-axle traction is supplied by a dedicated electric motor instead of the prop shaft. The two axles are separated and the torque can be managed independently and better than on a mechanical system.

      All high-voltage electronic components, including the control modules and the wiring between the battery pack and electric motors, are fully sealed and waterproof. As a result, the Renegade 4xe has a water fording capability of up to 40cm. The Trailhawk version is also fitted with steel skid plates for added protection when driving on rough terrain, as well as benchmark angles in its category (approach angle of 28 degrees, departure angle of 28 degrees, breakover angle of 18 degrees, ground clearance of 20.1 cm on Renegade Trailhawk; oversized wheels and tyres (17-inch 235/55R17 M+S w/Snow Flake).

      This allows the Renegade 4xe to be, first and foremost, an authentic Jeep that’s extremely capable and fun to drive, both on and off-road.

      SERVICES AND CONNECTIVITY FOR ELECTRIFIED DRIVING

       Smart onboard connectivity - user-friendly and easy to use
      Jeep Renegade 4xe was developed to offer state-of-the art technology and connectivity to meet the changing needs of customers. It is equipped with new UconnectTM Services with specific features for electrified driving and advanced on and off-board connectivity - My Assistant, My Car, My Remote, My Navigation and My eCharge.

      • My Assistant is a system that puts the customer into contact with an operations center to ask for help in the event of an emergency and receive localised support for roadside assistance. The customer will also receive a monthly report by e-mail to check the current status of the car.
      • My Car allows the driver to monitor the condition of the car, checking important information at a glance, such as battery state of charge, fuel level, tire pressure, and service schedule.
      • My Remote can be used to schedule charging from the mobile app, locate the exact position of the car, lock and unlock the doors, turn on the lights, program the air conditioning system, check key parameters, such as speed and driving area and receive a notification if they are not respected.
      • My Navigation can be used to check traffic conditions, weather and speed cameras along the route. It can also be used to search for points of interest and view the charging stations on the My Uconnect mobile app and the Uconnect 8.4-inch NAV system, identifying those that can be reached with the current battery charge (Dynamic Range Mapping service). The Send & Go function can be used to send the destination to the navigation system of the car directly from the mobile app.
      • My eCharge can be used to promptly identify the nearest public charging station, check its availability, start the charging process and pay. It can also be used to set up and control private wallboxes.

      A package of on-demand services that can be purchased on the My Uconnect web portal completes the Uconnect Services offer. These services include the My Wi-Fi, My Theft Assistance and My Fleet Manager packages.

      • My Wi-Fi can connect up to eight electronic devices to the Internet at the same time.
      • My Theft Assistance promptly notifies customers if their car may have been stolen. As soon as the theft is confirmed by law enforcement, the operations center will provide support to retrieve the car.
      • My Fleet Manager is the complete and innovative web portal dedicated to the management of small fleets.

      My Uconnect, the smart connectivity apps for an all-encompassing 4xe experience
      With the My Uconnect mobile app, customers can access an array of services for easy and quick management of usage status, maintenance, navigation, charging and emergencies, including theft. By using the My Navigation function, drivers can plan their route the night before and send it to their Renegade 4xe ready the next morning, or schedule their preferred charging times and days or search for and pay at charging stations.

      Charging options
      Charging the new Renegade 4xe is simple and user-friendly with seamless integration between smartphone and the Uconnect system 8.4-inch touchscreen, to manage charging according to the customers’ specific requirements and lifestyle.

      The electric unit on the rear axle is powered by a battery that can be charged either while you drive or through an external power outlet with a domestic plug and the cable supplied, or from a public charge point using the specific cable. To optimise charging times and to offer an additional, convenient home solution, the easyWallbox is available, which is connected to a normal domestic outlet and allows safe charging.

      This system was developed by ENGIE EPS exclusively for FCA and is marketed by Mopar in Europe. It is a simple, accessible plug and play solution that can be managed easily via Bluetooth, allowing the Renegade 4xe to recharge at home with up to 2.3 kW of charging power in less than 5 hours, with no need for professional installation. The easyWallbox can be upgraded to 7.4 kW, providing a full charge at home in less than two hours.

      In conjunction with ENGIE Eps and Terna, FCA e-Mobility has developed laboratories for innovative technologies, such as Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G), a system whereby an electric car interacts with the electricity network to return or store energy.

The Bentayga remains the fastest and most luxurious SUV in the world, offering a true Bentley driving experience and showcasing unparalleled luxury combined with effortless performance and everyday usability.

      The multi-award-winning Bentayga set the luxury SUV benchmark back in 2016, offering customers the ultimate Grand Touring experience unrestricted by landscape or conditions. Go-anywhere driving ability and imperious luxury are the hallmarks of the Bentayga – powerful, individual and exquisite in equal measure, the Bentayga is for those who demand luxury without compromise. To summarise the car’s achievements, Bentley has today released a short film showing the car delivering on its promise of power, performance and luxury.

      Driving growth of the luxury SUV market sector
      The first customers received their vehicles at the start of 2016 and in the four years since,  20,000 Bentaygas have been handcrafted by the skilled workforce at the Bentley factory in Crewe. Each one has spent more than 100 hours on a dedicated production line, where a team of 230 craftspeople meticulously assemble every Bentayga by hand.

      Over the introduction of five derivatives and four different powertrains has provided greater opportunities for customers old and new to Bentley, to add to their portfolio.

      Generating demand also creates opportunity for competitors, however the Bentayga’s diverse abilities means that it has outsold all of its key competitors over the last four years and cemented the acclaim of the pinnacle luxury SUV.

      Bentayga – The ‘Game Changer’
      Recognition soon came after the launch of Bentayga winning the ‘Game Changer’ award from a leading automotive publication for setting new standards and defying convention, due to its unique combination of luxury and go-anywhere ability.

      The Bentayga’s interior set new standards for both luxury and precision, with meticulous tolerances between the exquisite veneered woods, leather and metal elements. This level of perfection is only achievable thanks to the exceptional craft and skill of Bentley’s colleagues in Crewe.

      Never before had a vehicle so coherently combined genuine luxury with go-anywhere driving ability. The development programme for the Bentayga was the most exhaustive in the Bentley brand’s history, ranging across five continents. From the dirt and gravel of South Africa, the dunes of Dubai, the muddy fields of Cheshire, and from -30°C in the frozen North Cape to searing 50°C desert heat, the Bentayga’s ability to perform on any surface and even in the most extreme conditions was proven.

      One of the key successes of the Bentayga was the introduction of Bentley Dynamic Ride – the world’s first electric active roll control technology that utilises an unrivalled 48V system. The system instantly counteracts lateral rolling forces when cornering and ensures maximum tyre contact to deliver class-leading cabin stability, ride comfort and exceptional handling.

      While conventional anti-roll bars present a compromise between body control and ride comfort, Bentley’s adaptive and reactive system provides variable torsional resistance, allowing the Bentayga to be both dynamically capable and comfortable for all occupants at all times. The pioneering use of a 48V system results in silent, instantaneous responses and sufficient power on hand to deal with all road surfaces.

      It offers the widest range of on- and off-road drive settings of any vehicle via Bentley’s Drive Dynamics Mode and optional Responsive Off-Road Setting. Up to eight modes are available, allowing drivers, at the simple turn of a dial, to select the perfect dynamic set-up for any surface or road condition.

      Extraordinary adventures and past times
      The Bentayga enables customers to explore unimaginable places in exquisite luxury – an ability showcased with a Bentley ‘Extraordinary World’ drive across Chile and Bolivia with a number of customers in September 2016. The week long journey began in northern Chile, at Moon Valley where NASA tested the Mars Rover, then continued through the Atacama Desert, the highest in the world, and onwards across Chile’s expansive salt flats where the customers had the opportunity to use the full potential of the Bentayga.

      By 2018 further adventures had unfoldeded; exploring Iceland in a fleet of Bentayga V8s, experiencing the luxury SUV’s incredible off-road prowess, fording frozen rivers, climbing ragged rock faces and navigating frozen trails.

      Guy Smith demonstrated the pace of the Bentayga V8 on Rømø Beach in Denmark whilst racing two Kitesurfing World Champions, while others enjoyed the comfort and technology on their way to the Faroe Islea to go surfing - all displaying the ability and ease to explore further in a Bentley than ever before.

      For those staying closer to home, customers can personalise their vehicles in line with their pastimes, via Mulliner – Bentley’s bespoking and coachbuilding division. A number of limited editions have been commisioned for a range of outdoor pursuits including falconry, fly fishing, field sports and even horse racing - utilising the Bentayga’s significant 3,500 kg towing capacity.

      Power, records and agility
      At the heart of the Bentayga is the powertrain, which delivers previously unseen levels of power and torque for an SUV. Whether the powerful W12, sporting yet efficient V8, future-focused plug-in hybrid or the technologically advanced triple charged V8 diesel -all of Bentayga’s powertrain provide the ability of effortless grand touring.

      At launch an all-new twin-turbocharged 6.0-litre W12 engine combined efficiency and refinement. With 608 PS (600 bhp / 447kW) and 900 Nm (663 lb. ft) delivered a 0-60 mph time of 4.0 seconds (0-100 km/h in 4.1 seconds) and a top speed of 187 mph (301 km/h).

      The innovative Bentley V8 engine was also calibrated to suit this exceptionally capable SUV. Powerful and efficient, with seamless power delivery, it provides an effortlessly engaging drive – both on and off the road. It delivers an impressive 542 bhp (550 PS) of power that can take it to a top speed of 180 mph (290 km/h), accompanied by a potent V8 engine sound that reflects the car’s sporting capabilities. The V8 engine achieves its maximum torque of 770 Nm (568 lb ft) at 1,960 rpm and maintains this right through to 4,500 rpm, ensuring rapid acceleration at any engine speed and a 0 to 60 mph sprint in just 4.4 seconds (0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds).

      The Bentayga demonstrated its outstanding performance credentials by claiming the outright record for a production SUV at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb on Sunday 24th of June, 2018 in Colorado, USA.

      Driven by two-time champion Rhys Millen, the Bentayga completed the 12.42-mile course in just 10:49.9 – taking nearly two minutes off the previous record by averaging 66.5 mph while climbing almost 5,000 ft through 156 corners,.

      The Bentayga Speed is the most powerful and performance-oriented Bentayga to date. It builds on a long tradition of Speed models that was born with the Continental GT in 2007. The Bentayga Speed takes the Bentayga’s extraordinary abilities to new levels, boosting maximum power from 608 PS in the existing 6.0-litre W12 twin-turbocharged model to 635 PS (626 bhp).

      With exceptional performance, comfort and handling, maximum speed increased from 187 mph (301 km/h) to 190 mph (306 km/h), while the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) acceleration time is reduced from 4.1 seconds to 3.9 seconds.  

      The first step to Bentley’s journey to electrification
      The Bentayga Hybrid represented Bentley’s first step towards full electrification, combining the serenity of silent motoring with exquisite comfort and effortless performance.

      Offering the best of both worlds, the new plug-in hybrid model combines an advanced electric motor with a powerful and efficient new-generation V6 petrol engine. The hybrid version of the world’s most luxurious SUV will be the company’s most efficient model ever with CO2 emissions of 79 g/km (WLTP).

From the world’s first glimpse of the all-new Mulsanne at Pebble Beach back in 2009, through to the recently revealed final encore in the exclusive 6.75 Edition by Mulliner, the Mulsanne is not short of extraordinary milestones.

      With Bentley’s factory temporarily shut down to protect the workforce during the COVID-19 crisis, the Mulsanne’s reign as Bentley’s flagship model has been extended a little further, with production now likely to end in the summer as the 30 cars that make up the 6.75 Edition by Mulliner are handcrafted in Crewe.

      When the last car completes its 600-item quality inspection, the Mulsanne’s time as the pinnacle modern Bentley will draw a close, and the baton will be handed to the new Flying Spur – a worthy successor, having recently been reviewed as “the new best car in the world”.

      High Wycombe, 03 April 2020 –Hyundai Motor has revealed more details of its Prophecy Concept EV. In a new walk-around video, Hyundai Motor Group’s Chief Design Officer Luc Donckerwolke explains some of the key features inside and outside the vehicle.

      Prophecy received its digital premiere last month. Rather than being a pure concept, its name refers to the fact that this vehicle teasers ideas and features Hyundai will develop in the future.

      A classic car design to achieve the Ultimate Automotive Form

      Prophecy is inspired by the vintage cars of the 1920s and 30s, with a smooth, coupe-like design. Sweeping curves and smooth lines set it apart from the angular 45, another Hyundai concept car which debuted at the IAA in 2019. However, like 45, it inherits the design language of pixel lights. Its dynamic shape and rear spoiler give it a sporty appearance, and propeller-shaped wheels reduce air resistance. This look is based on Hyundai’s design identity: Sensuous Sportiness.

      Inside, the car exudes relaxation, with dark colours and natural materials that hearken back to nature. This is meant to create a completely new type of in-car experience.

      “The word ‘sensuous’ integrates the value of more emotion in our designs. ‘Sportiness’ implies dynamics, to be reactive of what’s happening around us,” says Donckerwolke. “Sensuous Sportiness is not about a new language or philosophy. It’s about a new concept in the creation of our cars.”

      No steering wheel, but joysticks

      One of the most unique characteristics of Prophecy is the steering mechanism. Rather than a steering wheel mounted high on the dashboard in front of the driver, Prophecy is controlled by dual joysticks located left and right from the driver: one on the centre console and the other on the door trim. In combination with a spacious interior, this not only allows for a more comfortable seating position while driving, it also frees up more space on the dashboard for other features. In addition, 90 per cent of the vehicle’s functions can be controlled via buttons on the joysticks, so there is no need for the driver to take their hands off the joysticks to change the music. This ergonomic setup is known as the Intuitive Human Interface. It has the benefit of increasing passenger safety as well as visual freedom.

      Optimised seating position through the Smart Posture Care System

      Installing joysticks is not the only way the seating position has become more ergonomic with Prophecy. The new Smart Posture Care System (SPCS) allows drivers to enjoy an optimised seating position based on their individual physical characteristics. The driver can either adjust the seat manually to fit their preferences, or allow the car to suggest a “smart” seating position for them. In “smart” mode, the driver enters their height, seated height, and weight, and the car automatically adjusts to the driver’s individual physical condition. The SPCS controls the seat, steering wheel, mirror, and Head-Up Display, and is based on medically-verified information.

      Relax mode: turning a vehicle into an entertainment space

      The infotainment system is integrated into a large screen stretching across the entire front of the vehicle’s interior. When not driving, the car can be used as an entertainment space by switching into Relax Mode. In Relax Mode, the seats recline and the dashboard swivels upwards, creating the optimal seating position from which to enjoy the content shown on the display. Because of the lack of a steering wheel, the occupants have virtually zero visual obstacles – they see only the horizontal pillar-to-pillar display and the wing-shaped dashboard. As autonomous driving technology progresses, the potential for vehicles to be used as relaxation spaces will grow in importance.

      Cleaning the air both inside and outside the vehicle

      Not only is Prophecy a zero-emissions electric vehicles – it actually cleans the air. This is thanks to a unique air filtration system with a fine dust sensor built in to the vehicle. When particle levels inside the vehicle get too high, the air system activates, taking in fresh air from the outside, filtering it for purity, and circulating the clean air throughout the vehicle. Moreover, this does not just happen when the car is driving – Prophecy continues to clean the air, even when it is idling or charging, and even if no one is inside.

      In most cars, the driver or passenger rolls down the window when they want a breath of fresh air. With Prophecy, the air is always fresh, so the windows of dual-pane glass are locked in place. When the air inside the vehicle grows stale, fresh air is taken in via intake valves at the front of the vehicle. When no fresh air inside the car is needed, the filtered air is pumped back into the outside world via two outlets at the bottom of the side doors. This system is significantly more energy efficient than a traditional ventilation system.

      Platform and powertrain

      After 45, Prophecy is the second Hyundai vehicle to be built using the Electric Global Modular Platform or “E-GMP” – Hyundai’s first dedicated EV platform. A dedicated EV platform opens up a world of possibilities for new design and comfort features. Electric powertrains are much more compact than their internal-combustion counterparts, meaning there is no need for a wide front hood or a bulky centre console. This allows automotive designers to reclaim the space for passenger use, and to reimagine the range of in-car experiences.

      Ingolstadt, March 3, 2020 – The Audi A3 firmly established the premium compact class in 1996. Now, 24 years later, the fourth generation of this highly successful model is ready to make its mark. True to the brand’s Vorsprung durch Technik philosophy, the premium five-door compact once again sets new standards, incorporating an all-new digitalised interior and cutting-edge infotainment, unique new light signatures, powerful engines and a suite of innovative assistance systems enveloped in a completely redesigned, yet immediately recognisable body.

      “Each generation of A3 has represented a significant step-change not only for Audi but also for the premium compact class,” said Andrew Doyle, Director of Audi UK. “Our new model is no different and continues to be a torchbearer for Vorsprung durch Technik – it’s fully digital, completely connected and highly intuitive.”

      Revolutionised: the exterior and lighting
      The new A3 Sportback has an athletic stance and its concave flanks introduce a completely new motif into the Audi design lexicon. They emphasise the dynamic appearance of the compact five-door vehicle, as do the heavily slanting C-pillars above the rear wheels. The shoulder line tapers upward from the headlights to the rear lights.

      The surface below it falls inward, accentuating the quattro blisters and highlighting the body shoulder. This creates an intensive play of light and shadow, which is mainly due to the strong contour in the sill area. The lower body line is drawn upward again before it reaches the rear wheel arch. This makes the A3 Sportback appear particularly dynamic.

      The front end is dominated by a wide, hexagonal Singleframe with a honeycomb grille. In interaction with the large, angular air inlets and the striking bumper, it visualises the sporty character of the premium compact car. At the rear end, the long roof edge spoiler makes the window appear low. Together with the shoulder line that extends all around the vehicle, the flat rear lights, the diffuser, and the trapezoidal exhaust screens, this effect emphasises the width of the vehicle.

      The A3 can also be identified immediately by its headlights. Fitted as standard to Edition 1 and flagship Vorsprung versions, the matrix LED headlights integrate digital daytime running lights for the first time. An innovative pixel matrix consisting of 15 light-emitting diodes shows a specific daytime running light signature depending on the equipment version: While horizontal lines are characteristic of the basic models, two vertical LED lines emphasise the sportiness of the S line exterior. In addition, the matrix LED headlights offer intelligently controlled high beam light, dynamic turn signal light, and dynamic light sequencing when the car is locked and unlocked.

      Digitalised: the cockpit
      A black-panel look to the instrument panel and centre console, stylish contrasting stitching, striking door handles and a new shifter design all contribute to the high quality feel of the interior of the A3 Sportback. Precise horizontal lines and surfaces with a clear design emphasise the width of the cockpit. This is also achieved by the striking air vent door strip on the passenger side and the curved trim strip below. On the driver’s side, the air vents form an impressive unit with the cover of the instrument cluster. The elements are merged here, which underlines the puristic design.

      The cockpit is fully focused on the driver. It uses familiar elements from the brand’s full-size class models and is equipped with a 10.1-inch touch display as standard. It can be used to adjust the settings of the media selection, navigation, and extensive connect services. When the driver selects a function, the system provides acoustic feedback. The centre display is integrated harmoniously in the high-gloss black bezel in the centre of the instrument panel. The entire area is inclined slightly toward the driver, as is the newly developed control unit for climate control located below. The black-panel look is continued to the left of the steering wheel.

      The design of centre tunnel console is designed to be particularly ergonomic. There is an innovative shifter integrated in its black-panel surface that offers the driver a completely new operating experience: Using shift-by-wire technology, the compact controller can be pushed and pulled to control the basic functions of the seven-speed S tronic. Next to it is a further innovation: A round, sensory volume control that reacts to circular finger movements.

      The Audi A3 Sportback also comes with a 10.25-inch virtual cockpit as standard, which is operated via the multifunction steering wheel. The displays relating to the MMI navigation plus appear in the Audi virtual cockpit, which has many additional functions such as a large view of the navigation map. The Audi virtual cockpit plus with a 12.3-inch display is even more attractive, and is standard on the Edition 1 and Vorsprung trims: It offers three different views, including a sport layout. As a further option, there is a head-up display that projects important information onto the windscreen in colour. The image appears to be floating at a distance of around two metres in front of the driver.

      Informed: infotainment with the new MIB 3
      The MMI operating concept is powered by a new main unit, the third generation of the modular infotainment platform (MIB 3), which provides ten times more computing power as compared to the MIB 2 in the predecessor model. The MIB 3 cooperates closely with the separate communication box, which performs all tasks relating to connectivity, including telephony and the Audi connect services with LTE Advanced speed, and integrates a Wi‑Fi hotspot. Individual settings can be stored in up to six user profiles. They range from the seat position to the air conditioning settings, frequently selected navigation destinations, and frequently used media.

      One major strength of the MMI in the new Audi A3 Sportback is the simple, intuitive operation with a flat menu structure and symbols that users are familiar with from their smartphones. Even the basic equipment with the MMI radio plus features handwriting recognition. The system recognises individual letters, cursive, whole words, and letters written on top of each other. With the MIB 3, natural language voice control is also on board as standard. The A3 Sportback turns into an intelligent conversation partner: The driver can formulate their instructions freely and the dialogue manager responds to them. For example, the system understands questions such as “Where is the nearest Italian restaurant?” and displays matching restaurants nearby. If the customer books the Audi connect navigation & infotainment plus package, the system also performs an online comparison, which improves the rate of recognition and the quality of the results.

      More precise: the navigation
      The MMI navigation plus, standard on the new A3 Sportback, recognises the driver’s preferences based on previous journeys, allowing it to generate suitable route suggestions. In doing so, it takes statistical experience values on time and traffic density into account, as well as real-time data on the traffic situation. High-resolution satellite images from Google Earth and detailed 3D models of many major European cities also make navigation easier.

      The basic services from Audi connect add online traffic information to the navigation, enrich points of interest with photos, opening hours, and user reviews, and provide a weather forecast for the navigation destination.

      Communicated: Car-to-X
      Multiple Car-to-X services connect the A3 Sportback with other vehicles and the environment. Provided the local infrastructure is available, they help with finding free parking spots on the roadside or allow the driver to surf the green wave by communicating with the city’s main computer.

      The information on the traffic light circuits is displayed to the driver in the Audi virtual cockpit. This allows drivers to adjust their speed preemptively, which increases efficiency and improves traffic flow. The on-board camera and vehicle sensor system also detect hazardous areas and speed limits and communicate them to vehicles with the corresponding equipment.

      Intensified: the entertainment
      The A3 Sportback is equipped with DAB+ digital radio as standard. Online radio and hybrid radio can also be installed upon request. The former provides access to online stations that are available worldwide, while the latter automatically switches between FM, DAB, and the online stream to ensure optimum reception at all times. The Bang & Olufsen Premium Sound System with virtual 3D sound at the front offers an intensive sound experience and drives 15 loudspeakers producing a total output of 680 watts. The B&O system is available as part of the Comfort & Sound Package, and features as standard equipment on the top-of-the-range Vorsprung.

      In order to connect the smartphone to the MMI, the A3 Sportback is equipped with the Audi smartphone interface. It establishes contact with the customers’ iOS and Android smartphones and transfers their Apple CarPlay or Android Auto environment to the MMI display. This will even work wirelessly in the near future. The Audi phone box charges the smartphone inductively, couples it with the car’s antenna, and provides a hands-free function in the highest speech and reception quality. Amazon’s voice service “Alexa” offers a new form of interaction that will be available for the A3 as of the middle of 2020. It offers access to thousands of pieces of information, ranging from news and music all the way to the weather. Smart home devices can also be controlled while on the road.

      Synchronised: the myAudi app
      Many Audi connect functions are bundled in the free myAudi app, which connects the customer’s smartphone to the A3 Sportback. It can be used, for example, to transfer navigation routes to the MMI and to stream music. The driver can also use the myAudi app to lock and unlock their A3 Sportback remotely, to locate where the car is parked and to be guided to the vehicle.

      The many innovations also include the Audi connect key, which will be introduced a few weeks after the market launch. It allows the user to lock and unlock the car and to start the engine with the start/stop button via an Android smartphone.

      Sophisticated: the engines
      All engines in the new A3 Sportback impress with their powerful torque and sophisticated running characteristics. In the UK, the premium compact model will be launched with two engine versions, both with front-wheel drive: a 1.5 TFSI manual with 150 PS and a 2.0 TDI that outputs 150 PS as an S tronic. In connection with this dual-clutch transmission, the A3 Sportback is fitted as standard with steering wheel paddles. Shortly after the market launch,a second version of the 1.5 TFSI with a mild hybrid system (MHEV) will follow. With this engine, Audi is continuing is electrification strategy in the premium compact class.

      A belt alternator starter (BAS) feeds a 48-volt electrical system that integrates a compact lithium-ion battery. When decelerating or during slight brake applications, the BAS can recuperate up to 12 kW of power and feed it to the energy storage unit. When driving off and accelerating from a low rotational speed, it assists the TFSI with up to 9 kW and 50 Nm (36.9 lb-ft) of torque. With the MHEV system, the A3 Sportback can glide with its engine deactivated for up to 40 seconds. The advantage in terms of consumption is up to 0.4 liters per 100 km.

      A few months after the market launch, Audi will gradually expand the offer by adding further TDI and TFSI engine versions, including some with quattro drive, as well as a plug-in hybrid in two power levels.

      Precisely tuned: the suspension
      Even the standard suspension of the Audi A3 Sportback is supremely balanced, combining supple ride comfort with good dynamics. The sensitive and securely regulating electronic stabilisation program completes the dynamic handling characteristics with wheel-selective torque control. Should the front wheel on the inside of the corner lose grip at high speed, it intervenes with a slight brake application. The difference in drive forces turns the car into the bend, allowing the car to follow the steering angle precisely. This makes the handling even more agile, fluid, and safe.

      The A3 Sportback is fitted as standard with electromechanical power steering with speed-dependent steering assist. It ensures a precise steering feel at high speeds and positive assistance while parking.

      The driver can also control the characteristics of the steering and throttle response as well as the shift points of the S tronic in Audi drive select. The modes available for this are comfort, auto, dynamic, and efficiency. In individual mode, the driver can freely specify their individual preferences to a great extent. In addition, Audi drive select influences comfort and safety systems, such as the automatic air conditioning, matrix LED headlights, the seat belt tensioner, and adaptive cruise control.

      For the axle concept, Audi relies on a MacPherson axle with bottom wishbones at the front. Models with an output of 150PS and more are equipped with a multi-link rear axle with separate spring/damper arrangement. Engines with an output of less than this are equipped with a light and compact torsion-beam rear axle. The swivel bearings are made of aluminium.

      The wheel portfolio of the new Audi A3 Sportback ranges from 16- to 19‑inch wheels and up to a tire dimension of 235/35, each with a focus on the best possible rolling resistance combined with optimum driving dynamics and performance. The powerful and fade-resistant brakes are actuated by a further innovation, the electric brake booster. Due to the fact that it responds very quickly, the developers were able to increase the air gap between the brake pad and the brake disc slightly.

      This solution suppresses friction loss caused by slightly touching brake pads almost entirely, thereby contributing to the high level of efficiency.

      Optimised: spacial concept, body, aerodynamics 
      The new A3 Sportback offers more space and functionality combined with compact external dimensions. It measures 4.34 metres in length and 1.82 metres in width without the mirrors, and is therefore just over three centimetres larger than the predecessor model. The passengers benefit from this directly: They have more elbow room at the front and rear and more shoulder room in the rear. Without the roof antenna, the new A3 Sportback is 1.43 metres high, which is identical to the third generation, as is the wheelbase of 2.64 metres. By contrast, the slightly lower seat position for the driver is a new feature. This underlines the dynamic character of the premium compact model and benefits the headroom in the first seat row. There are plenty of handy and clever places to store a smartphone, coffee cup, and other items.

      Larger belongings can be stored in the luggage compartment, which has a capacity of between 380 and 1,200 litres. The loading floor can be adjusted to different heights, and the rear shelf can be stored underneath it to save space. On request, Audi will deliver an electric tailgate, which can also be opened and closed with a foot motion. Depending on the engine version, the new Audi A3 Sportback has a towing capacity of up to 1,600 kg (braked, at a 12 percent incline) with the optional coupling.

      The body is extremely impact resistant, rigid, and acoustically comfortable. With the 1.5 TFSI, the A3 Sportback has an unladen weight (without driver) of just 1,280 kg, making it very light. In the passenger cell, components made of hot-formed steel create a strong compound structure. The front-end flap is made of aluminium.

      With a drag coefficient starting from 0.28, the A3 Sportback is particularly aerodynamically efficient, which reduces CO2 emissions and fuel consumption. To achieve this, the aerodynamics developers put a great deal of effort into optimising many areas of the body, for example the exterior mirrors and the underbody, which received a large-area lining.

      Aeroacoustics also plays a major part in ensuring that the wind noise is kept to a minimum even at high speeds and providing the customer with maximum comfort in terms of noise levels. Many engine versions have a controllable cooled air inlet: two horizontally positioned louver modules behind the Singleframe that are actuated electrically. They regulate the airflow intelligently and situationally, thereby solving the conflict of objectives between optimum cooling output and aerodynamic efficiency. While driving, they remain closed as much as possible. The brake cooling with a neutral drag coefficient, where the air is guided from the engine compartment through the wheel arch shell to the brakes, is another new feature. When the vehicle is at a standstill, the engine fan generates the air flow.

      Well versed: the driver assist systems
      The Audi A3 Sportback is equipped with numerous assist systems that provide support when driving in the city or on long journeys. In the Vorsprung, it uses a mid-range radar that takes measurements to the front, as well as two rear-end radar sensors, a front camera, four surround view cameras, and twelve ultrasonic sensors.

      With Audi pre sense front, the collision avoidance assist, and the lane departure warning, the premium compact car provides a high level of safety as standard. The interaction of the camera and front radar allows Audi pre sense front to prevent accidents with other vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists or to reduce the severity of such accidents. The collision avoidance assist also uses the data from this sensor system. It helps the driver steer their A3 Sportback around an obstacle in a critical situation. Assistance is provided in the form of targeted braking of the wheels and applying a little steering torque to correct the steering wheel angle. From a speed of roughly 40mph, the lane departure warning helps the driver to stay in their lane. If the vehicle approaches a boundary line without the driver having activated the turn signal, the system performs corrective steering action to steer the vehicle back into the correct lane. Additional steering wheel vibration can be activated upon request.

      The vehicle can be equipped with further driving assist systems by ordering the Driver Assistance Package, for example the lane change and exit warnings. If a lane change is categorised as critical, for example because there is a vehicle in the blind spot, an LED lights up in the exterior mirror.

      The exit warning uses the same method plus an acoustic signal to warn the driver about vehicles and cyclists approaching from behind, even when the vehicle is at a standstill. The purpose of this is to avoid possible accidents caused by opening the door. The rear cross-traffic assist is a further optional system. When reversing out of perpendicular and diagonal parking spaces, it warns the driver of approaching vehicles via the MMI display. In particularly critical situations, a warning signal is output and the brakes are applied in addition.

      The adaptive cruise assist, which assists the driver with longitudinal and lateral guidance, is the most complex system in the portfolio. The system maintains the speed and distance to the vehicle driving in front and assists with lane guidance by means of gentle interventions in the electromechanical steering up to 130mph. This increases the level of ride comfort during long journeys in particular.

      In stop-and-go traffic and in traffic jams, the system brakes the A3 Sportback down to a standstill – this is the case with both automatic and manual transmission. The vehicle is set in motion again automatically or by declutching and accelerating. The adaptive cruise assist is available as part of what is known as the Driver Assistance package. It also includes the efficiency assist, which notifies the driver whenever it would be sensible to take their foot off the accelerator pedal, as well as traffic sign recognition. The two functions allow the adaptive cruise assist to adapt the speed to the speed limits and the course of the road automatically, even without a vehicle driving in front.

      The high-beam assist and the emergency assist are also part of the extensive Driver Assistance  package. It also includes two parking functions: the park assist and the parking system plus. The former can guide the vehicle into parallel and perpendicular parking spots almost independently, using ultrasonic sensors all around the car. The driver only has to accelerate, brake and shift gears.

      In the case of parallel parking spots, the system provides the same assistance when maneuvering out of the parking spot. The system can also be activated during an ongoing manual parking procedure, for example if the driver realises that they approached the parking spot from an awkward angle.

      The surround view cameras, which will be available as an individual option after the market launch, are equally useful in city traffic.

      Individualised: the equipment
      In terms of the paint finish, customers can choose from twelve colours. Audi now offers the completely new color Atoll blue, available on Technik and Sport. Upon request, the Audi A3 Sportback is now also available in Manhattan grey (Technik and Sport) for the first time.

      The new A3 Sportback is equipped as standard with a 10.25-inch  Audi Virtual Cockpit, a 10.1-inch touch colour display in the instrument panel, MMI Navigation Plus, Audi smartphone interface and Audi Connect Services Plus. Further standard equipment on the lead-in Technik trim also includes headlights with LED technology, 16-inch alloy wheels, electrically adjustable and heated exterior mirrors, Audi pre sense front, the lane departure warning, and the collision avoidance assist.

      Next in line is Sport trim, which builds on Technik and adds 17” alloy wheels, interior and exterior styling upgrades, dual-zone electronic climate control, and twin leather upholstery.

      S line models benefit from 18” alloy wheels, sport suspension, LED headlights with LED rear lights and dynamic rear indicators, front sport seats with twin leather, S-embossing and contrast stitching, upgraded interior inlays and privacy glass.

      As a new addition to the specification range, the Edition 1 will gain 19” alloys, Black exterior styling, Matrix LED headlights, front sport seats in Alcantara and leatherette combination, electrically adjustable front seats, exterior mirrors with memory and heated front seats. The Audi Virtual Cockpit plus, and the new extended ambient lighting pack that features interior lighting with 30 colours to choose from are also added.

      At the top-of-the-range is the new Vorsprung, which features all of the standard items from the Edition 1, but with alternative 19” alloy wheels, a panoramic sun roof, electric tailgate, sport seats in Fine Nappa leather, Bang & Olufsen Sound System, and Audi phone box with wireless charging. The Vorsprung also includes all of the latest safety features available on the new A3, such as Head-up display, Adaptive cruise assist, traffic sign recognition and parking assist.

      Scheduled: pricing and market introduction
      The new Audi A3 Sportback will become available to order in the UK almost immediately after its world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show. First deliveries are expected in May this year.

      Worldwide, Audi sales totalled 1.845 million cars in 2019, an increase of 1.8 per cent year-on-year. Despite political and economic uncertainty and the residual impact of the transition to the new WLTP emissions regime, the contribution by Audi UK to this total remained significant at 138,924 cars, a reduction of around 3 per cent versus 2019. The brand is currently engaged in the most ambitious new model launch initiative in its history, and is already making considerable headway with its range-wide electrification roadmap.       • MC20 means Maserati Corse 2020 and celebrates that the Brand will return to racing.

      Modena, 20 February 2020 – The eagerly-anticipated Maserati super sports car will be named MC20. The car was developed at the Maserati Innovation Lab, will be built at the historical plant in Viale Ciro Menotti and will have its worldwide debut at the end of May in Modena.

      MC20 underlines the sporting credentials of the new model: MC is the acronym of Maserati Corse and 20 refers to 2020, the year which marks the start of a new phase in Maserati’s history.

      The first racing car to wear the Trident logo was the Tipo 26, where the number indicated the year of manufacture, and in the same way, the MC20 will be the first car born in the new Era of the Modena firm.

      The super sports car is the natural evolution of the highly successful MC12, the car that in 2004 marked Maserati’s return to racing after 37 years. The MC12 won 22 races (including 3 victories in the 24 Hours of Spa) and 14 Championship titles across Constructors’ Championship, Drivers’ Championship and Teams’ Championships in the FIA GT from 2004 to 2010.

      Maserati will return to the world of racing with the new MC20.

      The model will be built at the Modena Plant where modernization works are already in progress on the production line, which will also accommodate its advanced electric powertrain. At the same time, to further complete the production areas at the Viale Ciro Menotti Plant, work has already started on a paint shop, a completely new feature for the facility, which will be equipped with advanced innovative low environmental-impact technologies.

The Czinger 21C is designed, built and manufactured in Los Angeles for the 21st century.

        The Czinger 21C will debut next month at the Geneva International Motor Show 2020. Both a road and a track-orientated variant will be displayed at the booth (Hall 1, Booth 1030).  Founder and CEO Kevin Czinger will introduce the Czinger brand and the 21C to the public on 3 March, 11:00 – 11:15 CET.

        Revolutionary technology:

        The 21C is manufactured using cutting-edge technology tools that are integrated into a patented production system. The Divergent-Czinger team has created this production system, including automated design and optimisation software, patented additive manufacturing driven processes, high accuracy automated assembly, and novel performance materials.  The 21C is the first vehicle born from this revolutionary system.

        This revolutionary technology enables Czinger’s design and engineering team to express 21st century art in performance and design. A 21st century look at coachbuilding, each 21C is assembled by a team of artisans, from the fit and finish of each and every part - from seat brackets to suspension components - to the hand-crafted carbon fibre and multi-layer, show quality paintwork.

        Dominating performance:

        Vehicle performance results from a design in which all parts have a precise purpose, are built to achieve that purpose and combine to work in harmony. The 21C embodies that approach to total vehicle design.

        The 21C is designed and manufactured from the ground up by the Czinger team in Los Angeles, California. Lightweight, proprietary high-performance alloy and carbon fibre multi-material structures form the 21C chassis. Computationally engineered, printed and assembled, the chassis is home to an in-house designed strong hybrid powertrain that drives all four wheels. Achieving a true 1:1 power to weight ratio, a 2.88-litre, flat crank V8 with twin turbos located mid-vehicle, and an electric motor assigned to each front wheel drive the 21C to a 8.1 second quarter mile, 0-62 mph (0-100 kph) in 1.9 seconds, 0 to 186 mph (300 kph) to 0 in 15 seconds and 0 to 248 mph (400 kph) to 0 in 29 seconds. At 329hp (324bhp) per litre, Czinger's priorities are clear - maximize power to weight and power efficiency.

        Two continuous front traction motors and one combined crank-driven generator and starter (to ensure the power from the lithium-titanate batteries is readily available when needed) completes the strong hybrid set-up, which has 1250 hp (1233 bhp).

        This is paired with a seven-speed sequential transaxle gearbox with a hydraulic actuated multi-plate clutch to complete the entire drivetrain, which is designed, developed and built by Czinger.

        Iconic design:

        The Czinger design team upholds the company ethos of next generation thinking. The 21C provides the ideal seating position to achieve optimal performance driving and weight distribution.

        The 21C's iconic design originates from the concept of functional art. Performance driven "Iine logic" gives rise to the car's dramatic shape. Every opening (cut) line on the car connects two graphic or functional features, and strong, athletic surfaces flow and wrap around the car's performance core. Rooted in aerodynamic efficiency, the 21C's in-line seating creates a narrow cabin that pierces the air. The shrink-wrapped body hugs the chassis, tightly sculpting the front and rear overhang around the wheels.

        Never has a production car combined all of these design elements. Czinger's revolutionary technology enables this design breakthrough. The result is a car that looks like nothing else on the planet.

        Geneva International Motor Show 2020 partners

        Czinger has partnered with a range of industry-leading specialists to create a reception worthy of a 21st century hypercar brand, its customers and fan base, as well as the media at the Geneva International Motor Show 2020.

        Alcantara has partnered with Czinger to supply a range of cutting-edge and next-generation material applications for the interior of every 21C. Alcantara, a company likewise driven by proprietary technology and iconic design, has also worked with Czinger on its booth design (Hall 1, booth 1030), and will customise the walls in Czinger’s VIP space.

        Caber Coffee and Rancilio Group will ensure that the stand is well caffeinated throughout the Geneva International Motor Show 2020, for both press (3-4) and public (5-15) days, and available to all accredited and invited journalists and attendees.

        California-based sunglasses brand Mr. Leight will showcase a range of frames and lenses on the Czinger stand throughout the show. These frames feature lens tints coordinated to the 21C's glass and paint. With parallels to Czinger, Mr. Leight is a father-son brand headquartered in Los Angeles, California and creates beautifully designed, exquisitely detailed pieces, that balance classic and contemporary influences for a next-generation audience. 

        Michelin has also collaborated with Czinger to work with the 21st century performance car brand’s tire development to deliver its impressive performance figures.

        Finally, Vitra AG will showcase a selection of their Californian furniture designs, such as Charles and Rae Eames, on the Czinger stand. Blending sophistication in Eames Lounge chairs and versatile Soft Work sofas and workspaces by British designers Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby. The Czinger booth will be a destination to relax and work while surrounded by cutting-edge technologies and design.

        Czinger’s global debut will be at the Geneva International Motor Show 2020 (press days 3 - 4 March, public days 5 – 15 March 2020) in Hall 1, Booth 1030. Czinger’s press conference will take place on 3 March, 11:00 – 11:15 CET.
